On Monday, February 4, Ms. Amy invited some children to explore outside in the snow.  Each child was offered a magnifying glass and a cold piece of black paper to explore with outside.

When I mix black and red it makes black and reddish!

 During the week of January 22^nd, the children continued to explore shades and tones using paint. The children mixed red, white, and/or black.

We can use these blocks and makes lots of tunnels.

Ms. Szymaszek’s Investigations:

 During the week of January 22^nd, the children were prompted to construct ramps using wooden slats. The children asked if they could have white pipes instead because the dark tunnel was scary. 

The yellow makes the water look dirty!

 During the week of January 14^th, the children in the afternoon investigated the color blue. The table consisted of three colors: blue, black, and white. Using paintbrushes, the children filled their paintbrush with different amounts of paint. The children enjoyed revealing the color blue created on white paper.

During the week of January 14, the children began an exploration of folding and rolling paper. 

“My snowflake has a triangle and a volcano because the top is flat.”

January 10, 2012

On the morning of January 10, the children worked with Ms. Amy during group time to create a large paper snowflake.  The children suggested shapes for the teacher to cut out, and watched as she snipped the shapes out of the paper.  During the afternoon, the children had an opportunity to create their own snowflakes using white paper and scissors.

 On Tuesday, January 10, the children discovered the pieces of a wooden car that had broken.  “The car is all broken and won’t work.  We need to fix it!”
