Colder Weather is Here!
Greetings Families!
November has arrived, and there is a lot to catch up on! Thank you again for helping your child wash his/her hands at drop-off, and promoting good health habits. If your child is unable to come to school due to a cold or allergies, please call the front desk at 313-593-5424 to help us know who to expect each day. Again, thank you in advance for labeling any of you child’s jackets, hats, gloves, etc. Just a reminder that if the temperature feels above 20 degrees, we will go outside to play for a short while. Please send appropriate clothing with your child to keep them warm and healthy.
I also wanted to let you know about a great program we will have starting next Tuesday, November 13. We will be starting the Love and Logic series. This program teaches families about using positive guidance techniques for children. Families will learn about helping children learn from little mistakes, setting limits, avoiding power struggles, and techniques for handling arguing and whining. The series costs $30 total, and covers five sessions on the following Tuesdays: November 13, December 4, January 15, February 19, and March 12. This series describes guidance techniques similar to those we use in the classroom. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at aszymasz@umd.umich.edu.
Two other quick notes: If you are interested in donating a gift card for our basket raffle, please bring your donation to me by Tuesday, November 13th. Thank you for your support. Also, I will be out of town, Thursday and Friday, November 15 and 16th, to attend a conference in Atlanta. Ms. Jennifer and Ms. Allie will be in charge during these two days. Thanks!
Project Progress: Drawing, Designs, cooking and Clatter
The children have been working on several projects facilitated by Ms. Jennifer, Ms. Ashley, and Mrs. Davis. The
interests have evolved into drawing, talking about zoos, building zoos,
making instruments out of pipes, listening to music on the record
player, cooking and baking, and building flat and 3-dimensional
structures out of wooden tangram shapes. The three interns and I have been working very hard on capturing this project progress with video and pictures. To
find out more about this learning, we invite you to attend curriculum
night, where you can learn about classroom experiences and
investigations. Children are welcome to attend this special night, which takes place on Wednesday, November 14th from 5:00-7:00pm. As always for more information on project progress, visit the blog at http://ecec-szymaszek.blogspot.com.
