Ms. Allie’s Investigations:
“Look,
these stairs can go down to the basement!”
June 5, 2013
Throughout the course of the spring semester, the children have been interested in building houses. Today the children used large blocks to build a house on our patio.
First, they decided the house needed stairs. The last step was considered to be part of the main level of the house. Next, the children built a lower level to the house surrounded by walls. This area was the basement.
After their building project was complete, the children decided that furniture needed to be added to the kitchen area.
Lastly, they added caution tape to let other children on the playground know that their house was under construction.
During group time, the
children that built the house were invited to explain their process to the
other children in the class. The group
suggested materials that could be added to the house as well as other materials
that could be used to build houses in the future.
