SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
Welcome back families! We hope that you had a wonderful break and we are glad to be back. Now that the weather is getting warmer and the sun is shining, we have the option to sign up for insect repellent/sunscreen provided by the ECEC. If you would like the ECEC to provide the sunscreen for your child during the Spring/Summer term, please sign up in the classroom on the sunscreen sign-up sheet. If you have your own sunscreen you are welcome to do so—we have a separate form to fill out that gives teachers the same permission to apply. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks!
OUTDOOR SHOES
To help keep children safe and keep them from falling, all children need come to school with closed-toe, rubber soled shoes that are securely fastened to their feet. Slip on shoes, dress shoes, Crocs, and sandals do not meet this requirement. One important reason for this policy is that more flexible and secure shoes will allow children to run, skip, and jump better without slipping and tripping. The rubber soles also have better grips when the children are climbing on the play structures and riding bikes. Lastly, our playground has wood chips underneath play structures to cushion children’s falls, but the wood chips may cause cuts or poke children’s toes if they are exposed. If your child does not come to school with proper shoes on their feet or doesn't have a change of shoes in their backpack, they will not be able to ride on the bikes or climb the structures. Sidewalk activities, like chalk, sand play, and other types of stationary things will be their options on the playground.
PROJECT PROGRESS
The children’s excitement about nests and birds was contagious! Over the break, a pair of mourning doves made a nest and laid two eggs just outside our classroom window. Check the blog in the coming weeks for photos of this exciting development, and how the children represent their ideas!
