Ms. Szymaszek’s Classroom Investigations:
I
want to type my name. How does this
work?
Week of September 10, 2012
During the
week of September 10, the children focused their attention on a working
typewriter. The children first noted the
letters on the keyboard. “Look, I found the
A for my name! What letter comes next?” Next, the children noticed that pushing too
many letters at one time made the typewriter jam. The children discovered how to turn the wheel
to feed paper through, and decided to work one at a time to write “letters” to
each other. “Look, I pushed all the
letters one at a time and there’s my name!”
