Ms. Sam's Investigations:
We
need cement to build a house! Cement is rocks squished together.
May 20-24, 2013
During the week of May 20th, the children in the afternoon were interested in what made a house strong.
After reading The Three Little Pigs the children
decided that bricks and cement created a strong house. To further this idea
each child made a prediction of what they thought cement was made out of. The children used materials such as glue,
sand, clay and dirt to create their cement. After the cement had dried the
children suggested that to test the strength of the cement “we could use a
hammer to see if the structure breaks.” The children then became experts on
their structure and described to peers what their structure was made out of and
whether it was strong.
