Wow! We’re all going to look different!

Ms. Sanchez’s Investigations:
Wow! We’re all going to look different!
April 5, 2013

During the week of April 5th, the children began working on their final self-portrait.

As we investigated their facial features throughout the semester, the children have learned about their skin tone, face, eyes, nose, eyes and ears.
To extend the children’s thinking, we created different shades of skin colors by mixing brown and white together.  As children created these different shades of skin colors, they were able to identify that everyone has a different skin color and that it is ok to be different.

In addition, the children were able to choose the skin color they thought fit them the most.  After creating their skin tones, the children created a rough draft drawing of what they believe their painting will look like at the end.

Therefore, while beginning their painting and drawing a photo of how their painting will look was very exciting for the children as Hassan, “My painting is going to look different because my skin color is not like everyone else’s”
